Look, Love, Adopt

When you adopt an animal, you’re not just saving the life of the animal you adopted. You’re also opening up space for the next animal in need. Our goal at the Morris Animal Refuge is to approach the adoption process holistically to make the best matches for our adopters and for our animals.

Please see below for our updated adoption protocol:

To begin the adoption process, please fill out our Adoption Questionnaire so we can get to know more about you:

Once this is done, please allow 7-14 days for us to process your form. Due to an overwhelming amount of inquiries, wait times are longer than usual. You will be contacted via email when your form is processed.

The Morris Animal Refuge reserves the right to refuse any adoption.

If you’re interested in adopting a dog:

At this time we are only accepting adoption applications for specific dogs currently in our shelter or foster homes. The procedure for dog adoptions is outlined below.

Please note that skipping steps can result in your inquiry being delayed or unanswered:

  1. Fill out our adoption questionnaire.

  2. Email adoptions@morrisanimalrefuge.org with the name of the dog you’re interested in as the subject line.

  3. Sit tight while our adoptions team reviews your inquiry. You will only be contacted if the animal is still available and you are a good fit based on this animal’s needs.

If you’re interested in adopting a cat:

Fill out an adoption questionnaire and keep an eye on your email for an approval message.

If you’re interested in or have questions about a specific cat on our website, feel free to drop us a line at adoptions@morrisanimalrefuge.org

While we can’t guarantee the availability of any specific cats, we can schedule an appointment for you to visit the cats at our shelter.

What Should I Bring To My Appointment?

When you arrive at the refuge, please bring a valid photo ID and cash or card to pay the adoption fee.

If you will be meeting a dog: Bring any children living in the home. If you have another dog already, please bring them as well.

What Does The Adoption Fee Cover?

All animals adopted from Morris Animal Refuge are:

- Spayed/Neutered

- Up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations

- Treated for fleas and most intestinal parasites

- Microchipped

- Cared for by our loving staff until they find their forever homes

We require any animals adopted from us to see a veterinarian within 1 week of adoption for a post-adoption check-up and to establish care.
